For the month of February, we will work on the value of: Friendliness and Love
WHAT IS IT and WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
Friendliness and love are the basis of teaching children social emotional learning it is the foundations of empathy (being able to feel ‘for’ others) and friendship (being able to relate well with others). The importance of this value is for young children to start the process of building relationships.
There are lots of ways to teach our children about friendliness and love, but the best way to lead by example. Show them what it means to be friendly by the way you greet people, how you build relationships with others in your family. Read books about friendship and love so children can feel that this idea is relatable – show them many different books so that can understand that each friendship is different!
SELA Teachers will be working with students to give friendliness and love to their peer’s teacher will have students greet their friends in diverse ways each morning (hugs, handshakes, high fives, fist pumps, kisses on the cheeks) to get them in a routine of what is means to show friendliness and love. Teachers will be acknowledging the children for displaying this behavior in class and throughout their day.
