We are so excited to have the New England Aquarium visiting to offer workshops for SELA students in classes: Pre K, Junior K, K-4th grades.
Thank you to the Parent Association for co-sponsoring this fun and educational activity!
PreK – Kindergarten will do Tidepool Alive
Each session starts with an Aquarium educator guiding the students through an imaginary tidepool trip. The students discover tidepool animals and learn about their body parts, mimic their behavior, and even dress up in a seastar costume. Next, the students touch and observe the live animals (educators rotate them in small groups so everyone sees everything). They end the program with answering any questions the children might have.
1st & 2nd will do Tidepool Habitats
Each session starts with a general discussion about habitats and what they need. Students will learn about three different New England tidepool habitats and the animals that live within them. Next, they will explore live animals in their specific habitat models, and be challenged to determine which model represents which coastal habitat .The program ends with observations made by students on the animals that live in each habitat.
3rd & 4th Grade Tidepool Adaptations
Each session starts with an Aquarium educator introducing students to the concepts of tidepool formation and animal adaptations. Students will learn about three different New England tidepool habitats and brainstorm animals and adaptations for each habitat. Next, they will explore live animals in their habitat models. The program ends with a discussion of the adaptations observed by students.
