Afterschool Programs at SELA

Step into the magical world of ballet through stories, movement, and music! SELA is excited to offer Storybook Ballet, taught by Creative Studios. This enchanting program invites Preschool dancers to twirl, leap, and glide as they bring beloved stories and characters to life through movement and music. Each class combines beginner ballet techniques with creative movement, imaginative play, and storytelling. Through these playful storybook adventures, children will develop coordination, balance, confidence, self-expression, and a love of dance while letting their creativity and imagination shine. Storybook Ballet is perfect for young dancers who love stories, music, movement, and a little bit of magic! Ballet shoes are welcome but not required. Students may participate in comfortable clothing that allows for easy movement.

Move, breathe, and grow through yoga! SELA is excited to continue offering Yoga, taught by Creative Studios. This fun and calming program introduces Preschool and PreK students to the world of yoga and mindful movement. Through playful yoga poses, gentle stretches, breathing exercises, and imaginative games, children will learn to connect their minds and bodies while developing balance, flexibility, coordination, and focus. Each class encourages creativity, self-expression, confidence, and relaxation while helping students develop positive wellness habits in an age-appropriate and supportive environment. Yoga provides a welcoming space for children to explore movement with intention and joy while having fun! Students are welcome to bring non-slip (grip) socks for class, but they are not required.

SELA is excited to continue offering one of our most popular extracurricular programs, Science Club! This hands-on program encourages young scientists to explore, discover, and learn through experiments and engaging projects. Students will develop their curiosity and scientific thinking while exploring age-appropriate concepts in fun and meaningful ways. Science Club compliments SELA’s Science curriculum while giving students additional opportunities to practice and strengthen their Spanish language skills. Through experimentation, observation, and project-based learning, students will build confidence, creativity, and a love for scientific discovery—all while learning in Spanish.

Get ready to move, cheer, and shine with Cheer Basics: Spirit Squad Stars! SELA is excited to introduce Cheerleading, taught by Creative Studios. This high-energy program is the perfect introduction to the exciting world of cheerleading, giving students the opportunity to build confidence, stay active, and learn new skills in a fun and supportive environment. Students will learn fundamental cheer techniques, including motions, jumps, chants, sideline cheers, beginner stunts when appropriate, basic tumbling skills, and simple dance routines. Through engaging games and skill-building activities, students will also develop coordination, strength, flexibility, and teamwork. Beyond cheerleading skills, the program emphasizes positive sportsmanship, leadership, confidence, and encouraging one another. Students will work together throughout the session while building their very own Spirit Squad! The program will conclude with a spirited performance where family and friends can celebrate and cheer on everything the students have learned!

Build and develop your child’s tennis skills while staying active and having fun! SELA’s Tennis program introduces students to the fundamentals of tennis, including basic strokes, proper form, footwork, coordination, and ball control through a variety of engaging games, drills, and activities. Classes are taught in Spanish, giving students an additional opportunity to practice and strengthen their language skills while developing their athletic abilities. The program is led by Matias, SELA P.E. Teacher, whose goal is to spark an interest in tennis and other racquet sports through fun games, skill-building drills, and exercise in a positive and energetic environment. All necessary equipment will be provided.

SELA’s Soccer program has been a favorite among our students, and we are excited to offer it again this year! This active and engaging program introduces young players to the fundamentals of soccer while promoting physical activity, coordination, teamwork, and confidence. Through age-appropriate games, drills, and activities, students will practice essential soccer skills such as ball control, dribbling, passing, shooting, and movement. Beyond developing athletic skills, the program encourages students to work as a team, build positive social skills, manage their emotions, and practice sportsmanship in a fun and supportive environment. Classes are taught in Spanish, giving students an additional opportunity to practice and strengthen their language skills while staying active and enjoying the game. All necessary equipment will be provided.

SELA’s Pickleball program introduces young players to the fundamentals of pickleball through age-appropriate games, activities, and drills. Students will practice basic racquet skills, coordination, movement, and ball control while staying active and having fun. Classes are taught in Spanish, providing students with another engaging opportunity to practice and strengthen their language skills through movement and play. The program is led by Boris, SELA P.E. Teacher, who will encourage students to build confidence, develop new skills, and discover an interest in pickleball and racquet sports in a positive and energetic environment. All necessary equipment will be provided.
